Modern Music Institute - Flash Demo PlayerContent Notes:

This project was designed to train home recording enthusiasts in professional mixing techniques. It stars award-winning engineer, James Tuttle. This particular title was sold to Ask Video in Ontario, Canada which continues to sell it currently.

Technical Notes:

The navigational shell can be reused for other applications. The headers, titles, pulldown menus, table of contents, index, and navigational elements are all controlled by a single XML file. The entire interface was created in Flash and utilizes Multidmedia’s Zinc product to create both Mac OSX and PC standalone program files.

My Role:

I conceived of, architected, and project-managed the entire product. In addition, I wrote the XML schema, did some Actionscript coding, designed the interface and instructionally designed the content. All desktop videos were captured remotely by me using tightVNC and Camtasia.

Sun Microsystems - Flash Demo PlayerContent Notes:

While a contractor at Sun Microsystems, I suggested modifying Sun’s online Flash Demo Player. The original version - although a beautiful interface - was very cumbersome to use. I saw numerous improvements that could be made to the code base that would reduce a designer’s development time drastically.

Technical Notes:

The interface is created entirely in Flash and reads data from a single XML file.

My Role:

Originally designers were required to modify the Flash shell for some modifications. I rewrote the source Actionscript code to eliminate that need and moved all modifications to the external XML file. In addition, I rewrote the user help guide using InDesign.

Abbott - APM II Simulation & TrainingContent Notes:

This device training for Abbott’s APM II pump teaches through scenarios. It includes a demonstration of what to do, as well as a fully interactive model of the pump that gives learners a chance to demonstrate their proficiency.

Technical Notes:

This product was created using Flash, HTML, and Javascript. It has a narrow horizontal design because it was designed to fit in the shell of a SmartForce content management system (requires hooks to SQL database).

My Role:

This was a “one man” project. I designed all graphics, ui elements, html, and javascript functionality. I coded all interactions and simulations in Flash. I also was the instructional designer and project manager working closely with a very knowledgeable SME at Banner Health.

Sun Microsystems - Flash InteractionsContent Notes:

While employed at Sun Microsystems, I was tasked with coding various Flash interactions for Sun’s training group.

Technical Notes:

All interactions are coded in Flash.

My Role:

I created several Flash interactions for web-based training while ensuring that the content was completely 508 compliant.
